Staffordshire won this return match by an innings and 40 runs at 3.30 pm on the second day after enforcing the follow on, which Northumberland narrowly failed to save by 5 runs. The match between the two sides the previous week had also been won by Staffordshire. In the Staffordshire innings, Winser and Bucknell added 53 for the eighth wicket. For the winners, there were 1 five and 6 fours in Briggs's 79 and 5 fours in Stratton's 65. For the losers, Gillespie's 95 contained 1 five and 9 fours and Skinner scored 58 not out.
