This return match was drawn with Surrey 2nd XI winning on first innings. The game between the two teams at The Oval at the beginning of August had been won by Surrey. Only 90 minutes of play was possible on the first day, with the start delayed by rain until 1.00 pm and heavy storms half an hour after lunch prevented any further cricket on that day. A feature of the game was the unusual feat of two bowlers on the same side both taking 8 wickets in an innings. For the visitors, in the Wiltshire first innings Gooder took 8 wickets for 43 runs and in the second innings Bowring took 8 wickets for 51 runs. Baker's 35 included 4 fours. For Wiltshire, Stevens's 50 contained 1 six and 10 fours. Left with the task of scoring 103 runs in 15 minutes in their second innings, Nightingale decided that Surrey 2nd XI would not bat and the match was declared a draw. When acting as substitute fielder for Nice in the Wiltshire first innings, Butterworth caught Taunton.
