Biography: | Member of UK Parliament for West Kent (1865-68), Mid Kent (1868-85) and Dartford (1885-1906); Parliamentary secretary to the Treasury (1874-80); succeeded his father as 7th Hart Dyke baronet (1875); Chief Secretary for Ireland (1885-86); Vice President, Committee of the Council on Education (1887-92); rackets world champion 1862, and played a major part in the formulation of the rules of Lawn Tennis. MCC President 1880-81. |
