Bedfordshire won this return match by 8 wickets at 5.25 pm on the second day, after enforcing the follow-on. The game at Bedford between the two sides the previous week had been drawn. For the winners, Pollitt's 175, scored in four hours, contained 27 fours, 2 threes, and 16 twos. Wharmby's 57 included 8 fours and Hodgkins's 51 contained 3 fours. In the Bedfordshire first innings, Hodgkins and Pollitt put on 112 runs for the second wicket, and Pollitt and Wharmby 115 for the fourth wicket. Brown took 9 wickets in the match for 87 runs. For Staffordshire, there were 12 fours in Beddows's 92 and 9 fours in Stratton's 64. In the Staffordshire second innings these two added 127 for the fifth wicket, which was the second highest partnership for that wicket during the season. When he had scored 12 in the Bedfordshire second innings, Wharmby reached the career milestone of one thousand runs in championship matches.
