This card comes from the Minor Counties Research Project - research is continuing on this scorecard which can be expected to change.
This match was drawn after Buckinghamshire followed on 166 runs in arrears. For Hertfordshire, there were 7 fours in East's 62 and 10 fours in Grellet's 61. For the visitors, Cobb's 72 included 3 fours and M W Wright's 59 not out 6 fours. In the Buckinghamshire first innings, Cobb and E S Boddy put on 102 for the first wicket. The 61 overs [366 balls] and 32 maidens bowled by Wright in the Hertfordshire innings were both the highest for the season. In addition, the former was a new record for the Championship, exceeding the 330 balls bowled by V A Titchmarsh for Hertfordshire in the first innings against Buckinghamshire at Aylesbury in 1897, and the latter was the equal second highest number of maidens bowled in a match during the season.
