This rain-affected return match was drawn, as had been the previous contest between the two teams at Northampton in May.
By avoiding defeat, Northamptonshire ensured their undefeated record was maintained, which meant they shared the Championship with Buckinghamshire. Rain delayed the start on the first day until 12.40 pm and there were several interruptions to play. A heavy rainstorm prevented play after 3.45 pm on the second day, and the match was abandoned an hour later. For Hertfordshire, there were 11 fours in White's 98, and he and Golding put on 102 runs for the first wicket. T H K Dashwood and H J Hill had been selected by Hertfordshire for the match, but were reported in the Northampton press as failing to put in an appearance. Speyer, the Ridghurst captain and wicket-keeper, and Norman, the Hertfordshire Secretary, took their places.
When dismissing Golding in the Hertfordshire first innings, Thompson took his two hundredth wicket in championship matches.
