Staffordshire won by an innings on the second day, after making Hertfordshire follow on and dismissing them twice in a single day. For the winners, Grimshaw's 163 not out included 1 five, 16 fours, 6 threes, and 12 twos, and was the highest individual innings of the season. There were 6 fours in Harrison's 60. In the Staffordshire innings, Grimshaw and Harrison put on 132 runs for the fifth wicket, the second highest partnership for that wicket during the season. Grimshaw and Hassall added 70 runs for the seventh wicket. The visitors' total of 407-7 declared was the second highest of the year. Coleman's 51 not out for the losers contained 5 fours. Bigge and Knight were both reported as being absent on the second day
