No play was possible before 5.40 pm on the first day in this drawn match. When the seventh wicket fell in the Northamptonshire second innings, they were still 32 runs in arrears and forty minutes were left for play. However, East, aided by Horton and Smith saw the home side through to a draw, with one wicket left and 6 runs on. The main feature of the match was Arnold taking all 10 wickets in the Northamptonshire first innings for 54 runs. It was the first time the feat had been achieved in the Championship and was statistically the second best innings bowling performance of the season. The accomplishment was to be repeated and bettered by C Shore of Norfolk in the match against Durham at Norwich in July. In the match Arnold took 12 wickets for 79 runs. When he bowled Smith in the Northamptonshire first innings, he took his one hundredth wicket in the Championship. He was the second bowler to achieve the feat, the first being G Nash the previous season for Buckinghamshire. Bromley-Martin top-scored in the match with 37.
