Eleven of the thirteen members of the Hong Kong team perished on the return journey when the SS Bokhara sank in a typhoon off Sand Island in the Philippines; Dr J.A.Lowson and Lieut F.D.Markham were the only two European passengers on board to survive.
The Interport series was not resumed until 1897.
