This card comes from the Minor Counties Research Project
The Minor Counties won by nine wickets at 5.30 pm on the second day. It was the second representative match played by the Minor Counties since the formation of the Minor Counties Association, with MCC again being the opponents. The match in 1898 had been won by the MCC. The timing of the match was unfortunate, as Berkshire, Glamorgan, Monmouthshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire and Wiltshire were all involved in fixtures that prevented their players being selected for the Minor Counties team. Not one of the Minor Counties team had played in the 1898 match. For the winners, H J Hill's 153 not out contained 26 fours, 4 threes and 7 twos and lasted two hours and ten minutes. Hayward scored 59, Watts 57 and Elliot 53. For the losers, there were 19 fours in O'Brien's 95 and 12 fours in Reynolds's 77. In the MCC second innings, O'Brien and Reynolds added 164 for the sixth wicket. H J Hill did not play for Hertfordshire during the season.
[Missing: Fall of wickets; MCC and Minor Counties captains; in MCC 2nd innings part batting order; in Minor Counties 1st inns boundaries in Hayward's 59, Watts's 57 and Elliot's 53.]
