Match notes
The ninth wicket partnership of 106 between MC Miller and MD Pascoe was the first century partnership for Queensland Colts for that wicket. The fourth wicket partnership of 155 by GC Rummans and MR Daykin set a new record for New South Wales Colts for that wicket, the previous record of 150 having been set in the first match played at the Brisbane Cricket Ground in 1950-51. The tenth wicket partnership of 52 between RD Poole and MA Anderson in the Queensland Colts second innings was the first partnership for that wicket to exceed fifty in all matches for Queensland Colts. The match aggregate of 1266 set a new record for the Sydney Gregory Cup, passing the previous record of 1250 set at Hurstville Oval in 1992-93.
This was the first match to be played on the newly developed ground at the Queensland Cricket Headquarters, first occupied in November 1996 after several months of preparation. Shortly before the game commenced a brief ceremony was held to mark the opening of the ground. Throughout the wicket played quite well, perhaps a little on the slow side with some balls coming through low.
