Rain fell after just fifteen minutes of play and made the wicket most difficult for the batsmen.
Only Ray Sippel, who batted through the South Queensland innings, and Greg Hornsby looked at all comfortable as they added 38 for the sixth wicket. The South Queensland innings concluded after 160 minutes at the creases. North Queensland seemed well on the way to victory as they brought up 60 runs with only three wickets down. Three runs later the forth wicket fell and this was followed by a middle order collapse. The seventh and eight wicket each fell at 78 while Martin left at 90 and Minniecon followed immediately. JE Carroll was the nominated twelfth man for North Queensland while South Queensland brought only eleven players.
