The batting of both teams proved to be highly entertaining and in view of their lack of experience at a higher level of the game the Country players provided good opposition for the Queenslanders and gave them a worthwhile work out as a lead up to the ING Cup match to be played next Friday. In his debut for Queensland Nick Kruger showed to great advantage and a good future is predicted for this highly entertaining left hand opener. Martin Love, Queensland captain for this match was given a rousing reception.
To the delight of the spectators Scott Cameron, who hails from the Roma district of Queensland but is now a resident of the National Capital, played a sound innings punctuated with some quite sparkling shots. To date Cameron has not failed to pass fifty in any innings of these Championships. Simon Moore, one of the three players to have previously appeared for Australia Country, also provided fine entertainment in his innings of 46 and the crowd showed keen disappointment at his dismissal when just short of a well deserved half century.
Mark Divin gave a good display with the ball, conceding only fifteen runs from his seven overs. Most of the Country bowlers proved quite expensive. The fielding of the Country players was of good standard with some quite excellent displays throughout the game. The attendance for the day was estimated at being something near two thousand.
