The title has been accepted as England v Hampshire. Although the match announcement says Kent, as does the poem reproduced in SB, match reports are clear for England rather than Kent. This is supported by the composition of the team, which includes Minchin, Palmer, Stevens and White. Therefore Wood is probably John Wood of Surrey. Hampshire had Edmeads and Yalden as given men. Dismissal details are not available. The bowlers were: Hampshire - Brett from one end unchanged, Stewart, Barber, Hogsflesh and Aburrow from the other (it will be noted that Nyren is not playing); England - Stevens and May unchanged. A report notes, 'Lumpy [Stevens] had the honour of bowling out Small, which had not been done for some years,' but does not say in which innings.
