Biography: | He changed his name to Freeman Freeman-Thomas in 1892; Liberal MP for Hastings 1900-06, and for Bodmin 1906-10; junior minister in the Treasury 1905-12; created 1st Baron Willingdon, of Ratton, 1910; Viscount Willingdon 1924; Earl of Willingdon 1931; Marquess of Willingdon 1936; Governor General of Canada (1926-1931); Viceroy of India (1931-1936). Appointed GCIE 1913, GBE 1917, GCSI 1918, GCMG 1926, and Privy Counsellor 1931. |
