Biography: | A career army man, was initially in the Worcestershire Regiment; Matabeleland Campaign, 1893 (despatches); Served in Bechuanaland Police Force, and took part in Jameson Raid, 1895-96 (sentenced to 5 months in prison but released after 24 days due to ill health); West African Frontier Force in Nigeria, 1898–99; European War (Dardanelles), 1915 (despatches); Egypt, and taken prisoner at Katia by the Turks, April 1916 |
