Second's worse defeat in years.

Nelson 2nds v Ramsbottom Seconds 2nds

On a warm day up at Seedhill, Ramsbottom went into the game with an under strength side. First inspection of the wicket suggested to bowl first as the strip was very damp and sticky looking. Winning the toss was crucial.

Ramsbottom Captain, Rob Read, went on to lose the toss as Nelson put the second XI into bat. Sam Price with the only real resistance with a dogged 28, as the wicket along with tight bowling made it hard to play shots and score runs. Andy Holt and the skipper the only other batters to get any sort of start.

With the two main opening bowlers missing (Walmersley and Dalby), 84 was a tough score to defend. Hassan Farooq the only bowler to pick up a wicket as the Nelson batters showed Ramsbottom’s line up how to bat on a sticky pitch.

This defeat was the first of this kind in a good few years, the Ramsbottom players not being used to such a scoreline. Hopefully, this gave the 2nd XI a realisation check that this season is going to be tougher than the past couple in their attempt to pick up silverware.
