Marcus Trescothick was dropped for the first time in his international career when England announced their side to play Pakistan in the day/night fourth one-day international against Pakistan at Trent Bridge here Friday.

The 30-year-old opening batsman was axed 48 hours after it was revealed that he would miss next month's Champions Trophy one-day tournament in India while he recovered from a stress-related illness.

It was the first time in his 76 Test and 123 one-day international career that Somerset left-hander Trescothick had been dropped by England when available for selection.

His place was taken by Ed Joyce, the Middlesex batsman making his first England appearance since sustaining an ankle injury during the Twenty20 defeat against Sri Lanka at the Rose Bowl in June.

England made one other change from the side that lost Tuesday's day/nighter against Pakistan at the Rose Bowl by two wickets.

Spin bowling all-rounder Michael Yardy made his full one-day international debut, having played in the five-wicket Twenty20 defeat against Pakistan at Bristol on August 28, in place of pace bowling all-rounder Rikki Clarke.

Pakistan, 2-0 up, and needing victory in this match to secure the series ahead of Sunday's fifth and final match at Edgbaston, were unchanged.
