Player: | SP Griffiths |
Steve Griffiths spent the majority of his Derbyshire career in the shadow of Karl Krikken, although he was a high quality wicket keeper in his own right. His professional career started well, with 5 catches in his debut wicket keeping innings, although his taking of a catch of Frank Griffith provided a test for any reporter reading through the card. His lack of runs with the bat was a problem though, and he rarely batted higher than 7 even in Second XI cricket. His batting tended to be sound and defensive, rather than the quirky stroke play often associated with keepers. He was released at the end of 1999 to make way for the arrival of Luke Sutton, who offered more with the bat, although his skill with the gloves and patient professionalism means he left the County Ground with warm wishes.
