Chris Gayle and his faster men blew India away to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. Chris Gayle scored a blistering 98 to which the Indian bowlers had no answer and when they came onto bat the pacers bombarded the Indian batsmen with some unplayable bouncers. West Indies scored 169 in 20 overs for the loss of six wickets while India in reply scored 155 for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs.

Dhoni elected to field first and that decision backfired spectacularly. Gayle and Chanderpaul took few risks to see through the early period and once they got their eye in they went hammer-thongs. No bowler was spared as Chris Gayle smacked six after six with utter disdain. The bowlers had no answer to what the West Indian skipper dished out and finally at the end of the 20 overs the west Indian score was sitting pretty at 169.

The Indian batsmen in reply faced a barrage of bouncers and that put the chase of the rail. Batsman after batsman succumbed to some accurate hostile pace bowling as the India score was reduced to 38 for 3. Raina and Yuvraj tried to stage recovery of sorts but the former fell inj trying to up the ante. Once Yuvraj fell the onus of taking India to win fell on the shoulders of skipper Dhoni.

Hopes remained afloat when the Indian skipper was in the middle and once he fell to a smart bit of fielding from Bravo in the 19th over the remaining deliveries were bowled to complete the formalities.
