The English selectors have overlooked Michael Vaughan and Steve Harmison for England's Ashes training party, indicating that they will not be picked to face Australia. The pair has been omitted from the 16-man squad, which will face Warwickshire in a three-day warm-up game. As expected, influential all-rounder Andrew Flintoff makes his way into the squad.

The first Test takes place at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on 8 July.

England's 2005 Ashes winning captain Vaughan lost out to Ian Bell in the bid to challenge Ravi Bopara for the number three slot. Graham Onions, Tim Bresnan and Ryan Sidebottom have been preferred to Harmison as back-up to first-choice seamers James Anderson and Stuart Broad. All three spinners in contention for a Test place - Monty Panesar, Graeme Swann and Adil Rashid - have been given a chance to prove themselves.

One player looking to force his way back into the reckoning is Bell, who lost his place after the debacle in Jamaica this winter but has scored consistently in first class cricket, averaging 64.5 after seven matches. He will captain the England Lions side.
