Somerset edge Yorkshire out in a tense battle
by CricketArchive Staff Reporter

Ground:Headingley, Leeds
Scorecard:Yorkshire v Somerset
Player:ME Trescothick, Z de Bruyn, JL Langer

DateLine: 15th June 2009

Justin Langer along with Zander De Bruyn were able to stave off any late surge from Yorkshire to take Somerset to win. Somerset began the day needing 212 with nine wickets in hand and Yorkshire desperate for an early breakthrough.

Langer and Marcus Trescothick added 57 in 16 overs before the former England opener edged David Wainwright. Langer continued with his famed dogged determination as he helped Somerset edge closer to win. But with the score on 179 Langer fell when he edged Naved-ul-Hasan behind the stumps and this gave Yorkshire some hope of having a crack at the lower order. But Zander De Bruyn had other ideas as he steered Somerset to a very close win.
