Match report day 1: Lancs v Warwicks in Championship 2004
by Neil Adams

Scorecard:Lancashire v Warwickshire

Summary of day 1

Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat. Run accumulation was painfully slow with only 70 runs coming in the first 22 overs. In the space of eight overs, the visitors collapsed from 72 for 0 to 92 for 4, with Gary Keedy taking three wickets in nine overs before lunch. Unfortunately for Lancashire, Dougie Brown (120) and Ian Bell (106) added 216 runs for the fifth wicket (A record for Warwickshire) before bad light forced the players from the field with 20 minutes remaining (308-4). It has to be said that the days play was particularly boring. Stroke play was at a premium, while Lancashire's heads appeared to drop as the day progressed.
