Born at Shrewsbury, Shropshire, 12th December 1860.
Died at Portslade, Brighton, Sussex, 26th June 1944.
He was educated at Ardingly College, where he was a member of the cricket eleven. He stayed on as an assistant master until 1887. He first played for Sussex in 1881 and in total played 368 first-class matches between then and 1905, including 334 matches for Sussex and one Test Match, during his tour of Australia in 1887/8. He captained Sussex in 1889 and 1891-92. In 1889 he became Secretary of the Sussex County Cricket Club, only resigning in 1908 to become Assistant Secretary, a position he held until his death. He was also a useful soccer player, being a member of the Corinthian Club.
In the 1881 Census he is resident at St Saviors Middle Class School, Ardingly, Sussex, aged 20, a junior assistant schoolmaster.
