GUTTERES, Rev. George Gilbert
Amateur.
Born at Kensington, London, 11th October 1859.
Died at Algiers, 2nd March 1898.
Eldest son of George Gutteres, of Headbourne Worthy, Winchester. He was educated at Winchester College and was a member of the cricket eleven 1877-78, and played for Devon in 1878, going up to Oriel College, Oxford. He played for the University in 1881 but did not get his blue and in 1882 played in one match for Hampshire. He took his B.A. degree in 1883 and went on to the Ely Theological College, being ordained as deacon in 1884, as priest 1885. Curate of St Paul’s, Bedford 1884-6, of St John’s Torquay 1886-92, Rector of Plymtree, Devon 1892-7 and of Carlton Colville, near Lowestoft, 1897-8.
There is no trace of him in the 1881 Census.
