- This was the 97th match between these two sides. The record now reads : Pakistan 59, Sri Lanka 35, tied one, abandoned two.
- Prassanna Jayawardene and Naved-ul-Hasan became 114th and 146th player to represent Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively.
- Kumar Sangakkara scored his maiden hundred in his 86th match (79th innings). Only Arjuna Ranatunga (144) and Asanka Gurusinha (88) have played more innings than Sangakkara for Sri Lanka before scoring maiden hundred.
- Jayawardene was dismissed off the very first ball he faced. He became third Sri Lankan to achieve the dubious distinction of getting a first ball duck in the debut innings after Ruchira Perera (v England, Perth,29-01-1999) and Chamara Ganegama (v Pakistan, Sharjah, 08-04-2001).
- Younis Khan, on 26, completed his 2000 ODI runs. He was playing his 76th match and 73rd innings. He became 16th Pakistani and 107th batsman overall to do so.
